Punchh is pleased to announce deep linking of custom branded Business apps on Punchh Platform with Uber’s cab booking service. Deep linking provides application interoperability between two native apps on a device. In this case the native apps are the restaurant’s app and the Uber app.
(Native apps are installed through an application store such as Google Play or Apple’s App Store. They are developed specifically for one platform, and can take full advantage of all the device features — they can use the camera, the GPS, the accelerometer, the compass, the list of contacts, and so on)
This new feature has been added to Punchh’s suite with a motive to enhance guests’ experience and also to take restaurants’ services, a step higher. This feature will streamline the experience when guests desire to visit your restaurant by enabling them to book an Uber ride directly from your restaurant’s app.
Restaurant apps on the Punchh Platform have “Locations” tab that enlists all the active locations of the restaurant. This helps users to quickly find the restaurant’s nearest location or locations in a desired area. Taking a leap forward, Punchh now enables guests to book an Uber cab to the selected location simply by clicking on ‘Ride here with Uber’ button.
If the Uber app is installed on the guest’s device, deep linking will directly open the Uber app by tapping on the ‘Ride here with Uber’ button and the destination field will be prefilled with the details of the restaurant’s selected location. Guests can request a pickup at their desired location. If the Uber app is not installed, the guest will be directed to the appropriate app store to download and install the Uber app on their device.
In the near fututre, once the Uber’s Ride Request Widget is released in mid April, Punchh Platform will integrate with it and will then be able to provide additonal features like choosing between UberX, UberBlack etc., sending the request, tracking Uber driver, all the way through to arriving at your destination within the Restaurant app. This update will also support all local payment options without taking users out of the Restaurant app.
